There was a whole lot of amazing stuff to come out of Comic-Con 2012 last week; except for Stephanie Myer…. Gross. Anyway, Capcom revealed a new trailer for Resident Evil 6 which is set for release on October 2nd. Having not played any of the Resident Evil games all the way through I’m actually looking forward to getting into this one. I was wondering why? Maybe it’s because of my ‘Walking Dead’ obsession that I have a craving for some zombie shooting suvivalist fun. Then I was thinking that maybe I’m looking forward to this game because I have forgotten the thrill of playing a game that threatens to scare the pants off me as I move around every corner. Ok, maybe not scare my pants all the way off but it has been a long time since I’ve had a good scare. Is it because I’m getting old and jaded that I think that a silly video game can’t scare me anymore? I’m sure if I dug up Silent Hill, pitched a tent in the backyard, rolled out an extension lead to said tent and commenced playing it at the witching hour I could do some serious psychological damage to myself…..
So that got me thinking what were some of the games that I endeavoured to only ever play before the sun went down? I’ve created a short list of some of the scariest moments I’ve had while playing my Playstation machine, in no particular order;
Parasite Eve 2
I loved this game, but I swear if someone made my morning alarm tone the sound that occurs when a mutant dog is about to attack you in this game I would have a nostalgia horror heart attack.
Silent Hill
Me and my best friend in Primary school used to take turns playing this game in his teenagers retreat until we fell asleep (this ‘teenagers retreat was a tin shed next to a pool located about 100m from the main house). Worst. Idea. Ever. Stupid. Scalene. Triangle. Face.
Onimusha: Warlords
Another great game, filled with weird jazz music and even weirder enemies, this one definitley had the creep factor. The skeleton surgeon with the weasel laugh in particular.
Metal Gear Solid 1
This game was brilliant, I can’t recall how many times I played it over, but there was one part that used to freak me out no matter how many times I played it. ‘Mum!!!!!! Psycho Mantis knows what games I play and I think he just turned the tv off from inside the game!!!’
Resident Evil 6 is released on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 on October 2nd and you can check out the fresh trailer below, also let us know about your scary gaming moments as I’m sure there are plenty more lurking out there.
